The victim mentality is a mental state where a person tends to regard himself/herself as the victim of the actions of others.
This mental state is primarily learned from childhood from people who have the most influence over our lives – parents, siblings, and mentors.
For a child who has seen loved ones in abusive relationships and situations, he/she begins to accept abusive situations as the norm.
Over the course of time, in an attempt to fight those fears, the person like Laura becomes suspicious of every action around him/her.
He/She no longer feels safe and as far as he/she is concerned, it is him/her against the world.
