Life on the countryside where Roxy and her rabbit friends were living was wonderful. They spent their days playing around the fields, jumping playfully from one burrow to the next. Then one day, Roxy got hurt…
Roxy the Rabbit was particularly agile and always escaped from her friends in their games of chase. Her speed kept her well ahead of the pack.
“Boy, Roxy sure is fast,” said one of her friends. “Will she ever slow down?”
One day as the chase ensued, Roxy sped across the north side of the field, completely forgetting that she was approaching a steep hillside. She turned around and teased her friends, “Aw, c’mon guys, how hard is it to keep up?”
Just at that moment, Roxy approached the rim, lost her footing, and tumbled down the hillside. When her friends went to her aid, they realized that one of her paws was badly injured.
“Oh no,” screamed Roxy, “I’ll never be able to scurry around at top speed again!”
She spent her next few weeks sulking around, but day after day, her friends encouraged her to be positive and push through.
“Don’t worry,” they said as they comforted her, “You’ve got what it takes to bounce back!”
And with that encouragement, Roxy started moving around again. Little by little, she regained her strength and started to feel confident in herself. Soon, she was as fast and agile as before.
“I’m so happy that you guys encouraged me,” she said. “I thought this was it for me, but you believed in me and I started believing in myself. Let’s celebrate with a chase for old time’s sake,” she challenged. “First to the other side wins the top prize!”
Moral of the story: You have what it takes to rise up against the most difficult challenges.
The Resilient Rabbit Self-Reflection
Sometimes, life experiences knock you down and you feel completely helpless. You have no idea where to begin with getting life back on track, and so you wallow in the negativity.
That was the case with Roxy. Up until her accident, life was wonderful. The minute she lost her ability to beat the pack, she felt hopeless and helpless. She thought that things would never be the same again.
And then one day, it clicked.
She realized that taking the first step starts with believing that you have what it takes to overcome challenges.
Although the way forward may seem dark and impossible, all you have to do is take it one step at a time. Make the commitment to put one foot before the other until you’re able to freely walk again.
Resilience means having the toughness to get up each time you fall. With each fall comes the experience to prevent the same thing from happening again.
You grow with each step along the way until you’re so formidable that you achieve even more than you think you’re able to. Give yourself the opportunity to rise again. Have faith in your ability to bounce back and watch it happen right in front of you.
The ups and downs of life make you stronger because you make it through them. Believe in yourself and then do the work to return to your winning ways.
