Savor The Small Stuff Instead Of Sweating It

“Don’t worry about the little problems,” they advise. And they – whomever “they” are – make a valid point. It’s easy to get caught up in all the minor details that irritate us and ruin our day.

To be honest, it isn’t worth focusing a lot of energy on things that happen on a daily basis that we don’t enjoy. Sure, we could be annoyed that someone else stole the last decent parking place or that the grocery store is out of our favorite cereal brand.

Or we can choose not to make a big deal out of it and use that small, somewhat trivial thing to learn to see the bright side of things. Because we have to park further away, we get to get some exercise and enjoy some fresh air and sunshine as we go into the workplace.

When we can’t find our favorite cereal, we get an opportunity to try something new that we might like even better.

There are frequently two sides to any issue, and as humans, we have a choice in how we perceive it. Make it a point to look on the bright side, and you will notice an increase in your happiness and contentment.

Then take it a step further and begin to really pay attention to everything that is good around you. Take a moment to smell the roses, if you will.

I’m not kidding. There’s a lot to be said for noticing all the good things around you. There are many tiny little things around you that will make you smile if you take the time to notice them.

Make it a point to cherish the tiny things this week. Take note of how your coffee smells, how it warms your hands on a cold morning, and how it tastes as you take sips.

Pay attention to the birds chirping outside your window and observe how much enjoyment you get from watching them and their antics around the birdfeeder.

Thank your child for the embrace she gives you when you pick her up from school. In other words, cherish the little things that make you joyful.

Although it may not seem like much, it all adds up to a very happy existence. All you have to do is take the time to observe it.

Practice recognizing and relishing the tiny things in the coming weeks. Don’t allow the terrible things to get to you. Make it a mission instead to discover something positive in everything that happens to you throughout the day.

Pay special attention to the tiny things that make you happy. Recognize them, and it won’t be long before you see that this simple little activity has made a significant difference in your general view on life.
