Find Happiness When Your Body Feels Stuck in a Moment of Sadness and Overwhelm

We all go through difficult times. There are times in our lives when it is difficult to find joy and happiness in the midst of despair and overwhelm. We all have those moments when we feel completely out of our heads and unable to think clearly.

That leads to a lot of stress, and as we’ve discussed in prior blog posts, stress destroys happiness.

We all go through extremely difficult situations in our life. Relationships come to an end, and we lose loved ones. There is undoubtedly a time to mourn, and we must process our loss. We also require sad periods in our lives to contrast with the good ones. Happiness would be worthless without sadness. Consider that for a moment.

If you’re never upset and always happy, happiness becomes the new normal, rather than something to value and strive for.

Having said that, there are things you may do to find some happiness during these trying moments. Often, that is all that is required to help you get through a difficult time in your life.

You can’t expect to flip a switch, and everything will be perfect. And why would you desire such a thing? When we lose someone, we need time to absorb and grieve, and the overwhelm and stress help us stay alert and get things done. What we need to see is a glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel. We need a little happiness to keep us going.

Let’s talk about how you may go about bringing a little happiness into your life to help you get through the tough times. The first thing you should think about is thankfulness.

When you’re feeling particularly down, depressed, or overwhelmed and don’t know where to turn, consider the many people and things in your life for which you can be thankful. If you’ve recently lost a loved one, be thankful for the time you spent with them and the lessons they taught you.

If you’re stressed out at work or in your own business, remember to be thankful because you’re growing and progressing. It may not be easy, but this feeling of overwhelm and tension usually indicates that far better things are on the way.

Finding delight in the little things is also tremendously beneficial to me, and it will work for you too. It’s okay if you’re not ready to be appreciative. Instead, pay attention to your surroundings and find joy in what you see.

Allow that toddler at the park to bring a grin to your face. Enjoy the first warm rays of spring sunshine, or take note of how lovely that blossom in your garden is. In other words, look around you and find some joy and happiness wherever you can.

Above all, remember that it’s okay to seek out and appreciate these small moments of happiness even when situations are tough.
