Children do not come with manuals and if they did, it would still be difficult to follow a guidebook to help you know how to be a good parent.
This is something that comes with time and experience.
No one else can tell you how to do it either. They can give you tips and advice to help you but when it comes down to it, you have to make your own decisions with each day and each situation.
That said, here is some advice that might help you along the way.
Here are some tips on how to be a good parent:
Listen well – It’s not enough just to listen to your children. You need to listen intently and with focus. Really take time to pay attention to what they are saying and take an interest in their thoughts and ideas. This is how you form lasting bonds and also how you get to know your child as a person and not just as your child.
Don’t overreact
“Don’t cry over spilled milk” is a good phrase to keep in mind. You can’t worry too much over the little thing or get angry at things that cannot be changed. Children will make mistakes. This is an important part of growing up.
Give them enough space to make those mistakes safely and be there to catch them when they fall. But don’t overreact to every little thing here nad there. It will only serve to stress everyone out.
